About the Church

Melpadom Mar Thoma Church

A Community of Faith

Melpadom Mar Thoma Church is a congregation of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, rooted in the ancient apostolic tradition of St. Thomas the Apostle, and located in the serene village of Melpadom in Mannar, Alappuzha District, Kerala.

The Mar Thoma Church upholds the evangelical and reformed heritage of the Syrian Christian tradition, standing as a bridge between the Eastern liturgical richness and the reformed Protestant faith. Our parish strives to be a living community — worshipping together, serving the neighbourhood, and bearing witness to the Gospel of Christ.

Our new church building, recently constructed, stands as a testament to the faith and dedication of this congregation across generations — built with the prayers and contributions of every member of this family.

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." — Matthew 5:14

Our History

The Mar Thoma Parish in Melpadom has a glorious history spanning more than a century. Established in the year 1903 (Malayalam Era 1079), the parish began with just 29–30 families and has grown steadily to become a vibrant centre of faith and community.

From its humble beginnings, the parish has played a significant role in the spiritual and social progress of the region. Organisations such as the Sunday School, Youth Fellowship (YF), and Women's Fellowship (WF) have long functioned with dedication and vigour within this community.

The parish has been actively involved in social service initiatives and has been a pioneer in many developmental activities in the locality — organising spiritual retreats, youth programmes, and community outreach projects year after year.
